A cost/value analysis must be made in deciding to do one's own legal work. Some legal situations are very straight forward, requiring a simple form and no complex anaylsis. Anyone with a little intelligence and a book of instructions can handle the matter without outside help.
But there is always the chance that complexities are involved that only an attorney would notice. To simplify the law into a book like this, several legal cases often must be condensed into a single sentence or paragraph. Otherwise, the book would be several hundred pages long and too complicated for most people. However, this simplification necessarily leaves out many details and nuances that would apply to special or unusual situations. Also, there are many ways to interpret most legal questions. Your case may come before a judge who disagrees with the analysis of this author.
Therefore, in deciding to use a self-help law book and doing your own legal work, you must realize that you are making a cost/value analysis and deciding that the chance your case will not turn out to your satisfaction is outweighed by the money you will save in doing it yourself. You may find that it ended up costing you more money to have an attorney straighten out the situation than if they had hired a lawyer in the beginning. Keep this in mind while handling your case, and be sure to consult an attorney if you feel you might need further guidance. For additional information on finding an attorney, click here.
Also, keep in mind that the author is licensed to practice law only in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Much of the advice given in this book is based upon his experiences in handling cases in those states. The law in your state undoubtedly varies substantially on many important points. Do not rely on this book alone in handling your case regardless of the state of your residence. This author is not your lawyer and the information contained herein should be not considered personal legal advice from lawyer to client.
While there is much in this book of use to you, unquestionably special considerations apply in your state that are not covered in this book. Even if you are a resident of Pennsylvania or New Jersey, every case has its own special facts and legal applications that make reliance on this book alone unwise. You need either to conduct your own independent research or to hire an attorney licensed in your state in order to be sure that your case is handled competently. My words to you here are a guide and a starting point only.
